Did anybody not see this coming? I could tell from day one Pedro was going to be out longer than 4-6 weeks.
Interesting other points from the article:
Combined with an offense that has a league-low five homers and is hitting just .182 with runners in scoring position and two out, the Mets aren't living up to their preseason status as the trendy NL East favorite.
The team's 3.84 ERA is in the middle of the pack, which amounts to a disappointment in the decidedly weaker NL.
Minaya held a closed-door meeting with Willie Randolph after Sunday's ugly, 9-7 loss and said he planned another meeting of the team's braintrust yesterday to discuss the state of the Mets.

Wow, can willie be an unwarranted ass at times??? How about this quote:
Willie Randolph, who doesn't sound all that impressed by Pagan though the former Cub is leading the team in average (.385), on-base percentage (.458) and hits (15) while filling in for Alou in left field.
"He's not going to be in that tree all year," Randolph said of Pagan, who is also tied with David Wright for the team lead with 10 RBIs. "We've seen a lot of players come through the pike and do what Pagan's doing, so let's keep this in perspective."
Willie, are you so jaded towards young players in favor of vets that you have to unnecessarily knock down a guy who has had a brilliant spring training and start of the regular season? On a team that SUCKS at driving in runs, why do you choose to knock the guy who is tied for first in RBI? Sometimes I just don't get this guy. Everyone knows the job is Alou's when he comes back, there is no need to undercut Pagan to make the point.
How about a simple "He's really done a remarkable job filling in for Alou, outperforming our best expectations. It would be difficult to maintain that level of production all year, of course, but up to now he has certainly done everything we've asked and more."
This way you might actually keep the guy motivated when he comes off the bench, or when he fills in for Alou mid-season with Alou's inevitable next old-man injury.
