Now Joel Sherman writes that it might actually be a possibility. Could a young all star and a true 5 tool player be coming to the Mets? Would it be worth trading a front line pitching prospect (Humber or Pelfrey) for him? Probably. If we could get him for Milledge and Heilman its a definite go.
If we trade for Crawford and sign Soriano to play second, that would be sick:

Interesting long-shot possibility..
I'd say on the one hand it's tough to pass up the opportunity to pursue a talent like Crawford, who shows a lot of promise.
That said, I'd much rather make the trade if we lose position players rather than a pitcher. Pitching is always the limiting factor in the playoffs, and none of the Mets young pitchers are yet proven at the Major League level, which raises some question marks heading into next season (and beyond). Before we part with Humber or Pelfrey, I'd like to have a better sense of what they (or Bannister or Maine) will really do in the majors. I would not want to trade any pitchers at this point, and in fact would look to be a buyer in the offseason.
One other (minor) drawback against swapping Crawford for Milledge is that Mets have not done well against lefties this year, and this swap would not help with that. (Assuming of course that Milledge ends up being a better player than his .250 avg suggests. If not, dumping him for anyone is a win.)
Adding Soriano would solve the LHP problem. The problem with finding out what the kids have is that most of them will not be big-time MLB starters. One or two of them might be. If you can get a team to send you a 25 yr old star who's already an all-star for a guy who may or may not be a front-line starter, that's a win in my book. You have to hope the Mets and their scouts know which one of these young guys, Pelfrey or Humber, have the better chance at being a star. Giving them a real look in the majors will probably just reduce their trade value, a la Milledge this year. Of course, if they grade Pelfrey and Humber out as can't miss stars, then don't trade them--but I better see them in the rotation next year.
