Minor League Machinations

Looks like the Mets have been out-maneuvered on this one. They're losing Norfolk to the Orioles. Columbus is affiliating with the Nationals. The Yanks are taking Scranton. And the Mets are going to be stuck with New Orleans. Terrible travel schedule for the N.O. team, which has to make West Coast swings, and much harder to move guys up and down between Binghamton and New York.

Why not make Brooklyn the AAA team and drop New Orleans to A ball?

I agree about making Cyclones AAA team, I think it makes sense for many reasons. Having the AAA talent playing close to home market would do several things:

1. Increase fan interest in entire team base, since you can now get a direct look at both major leaguers and those waiting in the wings.

2. Should ease transition for players promoted from AAA to Mets if they are already used to NY atmosphere, media, environment, etc. I think it would take players less time to adjust, but that's just a guess.

And, let's not forget, with a population of 2.5 million, Brooklyn (if you considered it independent) would be the fourth biggest city in the country after New York, LA, and Chicago. Why not give 'em something a little bigger?
