LIARS!!!

Apparently the rumored Halladay trade was a hoax.

And it is believed that Omar would have pulled the trigger if the deal was offered.

Jays' officials are saying that the Ments are not serious contenders for Halladay.

So, Plan B, then?

Shed payroll. Sign Bedard as FA. Trade for Crawford.

...the Ments...

As in, the disappointMents?

I don't think we're just one piece away from fixing the problem, I think a large fraction of the team is the problem. So I'd still go for trading Reyes, Beltran and Delgado to get a ton of prospects and rookies in return, and maybe as part of those deals pick up another solid bat. Add those to a core of Santana, Pelfrey, Maine, K-rod, Wright, Murphy and Francoeur, and I think you could have a great team in 2011 and beyond.

Especially if at least one or more of F-mart, parnell, niese, etc. pan out.

I like your Plan B, D.C.

I think that's actually my Plan A.

I think he means the PepperMents. As in, you need to get the taste of the Mets out of your mouth after each and every game.

From ESPN:

PITTSBURGH -- The Pittsburgh Pirates have cut off contract talks with shortstop Jack Wilson and second baseman Freddy Sanchez after the player didn't respond to multiyear offers, increasing the chances the double-play duo will be traded before the season ends.

Sanchez
Crawford
Wright
Beltran
Francoeur
Murphy
Wilson
Thole

Reyes & a low minors prospect for Crawford.

What would we have to give up to get Wilson and Sanchez?

BTW, are there two more immovable contracts in baseball than Schneider's and Castillo's?

OK, a few points:

SHK, the Ments thing is just my crappy typing. I like where you guys went with it though--actually, I totally meant (or ment) to do that so I get the credit for the jokes...

Jack Wilson has an $8.4m club option for next season so we'd be saddled with a light-bat, ok glove, huge contract at short. Sanchez's club option is $8m. Both have buyouts of $600k, with Sanchez's automatically kicking in at 600 AB's.

And as for the immovable contracts, how about Alfonso Soriano, Vernon Wells, and Barry Zito?

And we're not gonna be trading Delgado anywhere--he's a FA at the end of the year and no one's gonna give up anything for him before then.

I'm still a fan of trying to get in on the Ben Sheets situation. Imagine a rotation of Santana, Bedard, Pelfrey, Sheets, and Maine.

I can't even think of who where we could trade Beltran, or what we could get in return. I think even if we could move him, we'd have to eat a major chunk of money (in which case, why bother?).

We could also solve our IF dilemma by trading for Scott Rolen and moving Wright to 1B.

Cue Fredo's groans as I suggest Rolen yet again...

In addition to trading Delgado, I think we should see what we can back for Piazza, Straw, and Seaver.

Sanchez is a former all star, an excellent glove, and a really good lead off hitter. I believe he and Wilson are also the most prolific middle infield at turning the DP over the past several seasons. OK, so that might have something to do with all those baserunners, but still...

Also, while Wilson has been a bit of a complainer this year, it's hard to blame him after spending his whole career in that sinkhole. I've always thought of the guy as a hard nosed player, and he's certainly not a black hole offensively. He's a character guy who's a legitimate major league SS, and a reasonable player to have in your 8-hole. Not for $8M/per, but no one's picking up that option anyway. I would think after a career of .375 baseball, Wilson would definitely think of the Mets as an upgrade and might reup for significantly less money. He's a career .270 contact hitter--kind of like what Castillo is now, but not broken down physically, and not a jerk off.
