Oh, that's right, I forgot...
I think your two choices are Maine or Pelf. Pedro is ATROCIOUS in his initial innings, as the numbers bear out. Between Maine and Pelf I'd pick Maine, b/c I think you have a better chance of getting 7-8 innings from Pelf than from Maine, especially after the injury.
I suppose you could go with Ollie, maybe there's something to using him out of the pen for a real change of speed and style. But, in general he has stepped up in big pressure situations, so I'd like to use him as a starter down the stretch and into the playoffs. He seems to perform best when the pressure is on, and that is very valuable.
It's definitely an interesting question.
As you point out, Perez seems to perform best in pressure situations, which is pretty much the job description for a closer. That said, balls and strikes are always an issue for him, and his 1st inning OPS shows it usually takes him a couple of innings to settle in.
Maine is the polar opposite. Comes in firing strikes.
The case to make Pelf the closer is interesting. He's been a horse the past few months, so you hate to mess with a good thing. At the same time, it would alleviate the question over his IP's heading late into his first full ML season.
Only one thing left to do: Lima time!
