'Nuff Said

Since July 4, Santana is 9-0 with a 2.09 ERA in 17 starts. He threw his third complete game this season, and it was the sixth of his impressive career. The last Mets pitcher to throw a shutout on three days' rest was Dwight Gooden on Sept. 16, 1987.

First in the NL in ERA and IP, and up to 16 wins. Unlike Lincecum or Webb, Johan's kept his team in the playoff hunt down to the last day of the season. Cy Young?

ESPN's Cy predictor has it as Webb - Lincecum - Santana. I think it has to be Santana. First, he has the lowest ERA. Second, he has most innings pitched. Third, if the Mets didn't blow, his W-L would be at least as good as Webb's, so I think that should be less important. Finally, there's no way Webb and Lincecum pitched in as many critical games under the raw pressure that Johan did. To do what he did in this environment, knowing he had NO offense behind him and NO bullpen behind him in almost every start is incredible.
