And I thought Ayala was the answer.

No, not really. I'm just kidding.

I sure hope Maine comes back soon, and goes straight to the pen.

Losing Maine and now Wags, and having no Duque all season are tough blows. Luckily Niese was solid yesterday and hopefully he can build on that. But if our bullpen continues to fold, just as it did in sep '07, then we're not going to have much of a chance in the playoffs assuming we make it.

No chance at all. The Mets had 3 guys for the 8th and 9th inning this year: Wags, Heilman and Duaner. Duaner was the only one who was a clear "question mark" at the beginning of the year.

Wags was mediocre for him (great compared to what we're throwing now), Heilman tanked, and Duaner has been moderately poor.

So of the three guys who we were counting on, zero stepped up. All three stepped back. And it really doesn't matter if Joe Smith is doing a nice job when no one can close out the ball game.

The Mets need to move a starter to the pen. If Maine's not coming back, then it's got to be Ollie.
