Willie about to get axed???

The deafening silence from Wilpon, and his unwillingness to answer Willie's call yesterday, imply yes. Especially since Willie and Wilpon apparently normally speak frequently. If so, it would be tough seeing Willie go out like this. I think his recent comments were ridiculous, but I think largely due to his frustration and it would be a shame if this were his parting image. I don't think Willie is a good tactical manager as I've said several times, but Omar is certainly largely to blame for assembling an aged team that relies on a 25-year-old to be their only vocal leader.

This team needs a Lou Piniella-type person in the dugout. Maybe as coach, maybe as bench coach, but they need someone to kick their asses and inject some life into their punchless personalities.

Willie should go, and quite honestly Omar was deluding himself in the offseason if he didn't expect Alou, Duque, and Pedro to spend significant amount of time on DL. He was also deluding himself if he thought Delgado would turn things around this year: his age and trendline over the past 5 years argue otherwise. Omar needed to do more in the offseason, and he didn't.

This team needs some hard-nosed, gritty, vocal players, and they got rid of the one guy (PLD) they had in that category.
