Pelfrey

Pelfrey sent down to AAA. Mets had little choice given his record, ERA, and BB:K ratio. That said, the replacement options they are throwing around (Sele, Vargas) are not exactly getting me fired up with excitement.

On the upside, what a gem for Perez today! Nearly a complete game shutout, almost no-hitter. Great stuff.

Well, there is no replacement, if Duque is ready to come back.

Glavine/Maine/Duque/Perez/Sosa.

Sosa replaced Pelfrey, which I can live with, if Omar, Willie and the scouts think that Sosa is a long-term solution for our rotation. If they're merely riding a hot hand without real faith in Sosa, but still expect Pelfrey to be a part of this franchise down-the-line, this was silly. Given Sosa's track record and the trend line on Pelfrey's career (nothing but up, up, up until getting bruised through his first 6 or 7 starts), color me skeptical.

BTW, how 'bout Carlos Gomez with 2 hits (one a double) in his first ML game? That kid can fly.

Hopefully Duque is back, and that's what I thought was going to happen, but article seemed to indicate otherwise. Sele and Vargas are not looking good.

I can't help but think Sosa is nothing more than the hot hand, given his history. Until he puts in at least 4 or 5 solid starts in a row I won't believe the hype. But again, until Duque is back I just think having a rotation with Perez, Pelfrey, and Sosa is very risky. Lot of upside, but potentially a lot of very damaging downside along the way.

Gomez going 2-4 is possibly the best thing to happen in yesterday's game (well, second best to Perez's gem). It will give him confidence he'll need down the line. It's clear why mets organization is extremely excited about him. Imagine the speed in a lineup with Reyes, Gomez, Beltran, and Wright.
