Beltran to the DL

Just try it. Everyone's doing it.

Interesting discussion on what the Mets should do next is here.

Here is my only request of Omar. Please do not make a move that is primarily geared at salvaging the '09 season. Any move should be aimed at solidifying the team for the next 3 years.

Even if we make the playoffs (which is definitely a possibility, given that I still believe only 1-2 games will separate us and Phils at end of season), we're not going anywhere beyond the first round.

Not unless Omar truly believes that Delgado, Beltran, Reyes, Putz and Maine will be back and not injured in Sep/Oct.

Not unless Omar truly believes that our bullpen - already exhausted and we're not even at the All-Star Break - won't be broken by Sep from overwork just like the last two seasons.

And not unless Omar believes this team miraculously finds fight and character that is so sorely lacking.

Unfortunately, Omar has waited too long to break up the core in a trade. If he had broken them up and traded one or more of the core at the end of last season like almost everyone was screaming for, he would have gotten better trade value than he will now. But, that's what you get when you refuse to make the hard decisions a manager is supposed to make and only move when the situation forces you to.
