Bring it
Tonight is the exact reason we went after Santana: a critical game, tied for first, we need to set the tone for this series starting with tonight's game. Johan needs to shut down the Phils, despite playing in a little league park.
Johan was fantastic. Question for Jerry Manuel: this is like the third time you've lifted Santana when, by the pitch count, he could've stayed in. Given that you knew that Wagner was unavailable, isn't it a fair question to ask: WHY ARE YOU A NO-TALENT ASS-CLOWN?
Point #2: for every Mets fan who thinks that Billy is "unreliable" because he blows one out of every 7 save opportunities, how do you like the alternative?
The alternative being 4 Mets pitchers blowing a 3 run lead against our most important opponent. In case you weren't clear on that point.
The Mets are one of only four teams in NL to have 0, count it ZERO, complete games this year. This is absurd, and as Fredo points out Manuel (as well as Willie) has too quick a trigger finger to pull starters. Your ace is supposed to be able to throw 120 pitches in a game like this, and go the complete game.
Only the weak-ass, no-talent-having, no-pride-having Mets could blow that game. They truly are a bunch of losers.
As for wags, it's really a pick 'em. Whether he's choking or sanchez / heilman / feliciano continue to choke is irrelevant. They all blow, and the bottom line is you're not winning a championship with that collection of tools.
At least Santana knew his role, the importance of the game, and did his part:
"I knew coming in this would be the most important game as a Met, because I knew the situation we were in," Santana said. "I was giving everything I had."
As for wags, it's really a pick 'em. Whether he's choking or sanchez / heilman / feliciano continue to choke is irrelevant. They all blow.
With Wags hurt, the rest of the pen is now one-for-one in blowing crucial must win games. That % is a tad higher than Wags' BS rate. Not sure they "all blow" equally.
And by the by, the scope of last night's bullpen meltdown can't even be adequately described. Not only did they give up a 6 run 9th inning, but they gave up a 3 run lead before recording an out, IIRC.
"I feel bad for him," Wagner said. "I guess I could have gone. My shoulder felt better tonight than it did Sunday, and I pitched then. But they said, 'No.' I was willing to give it a go. But I understood."
And he understood all Sanchez and Feliciano had endured. "It's not always as easy as it looks," Wagner said.
I concur--it's never easy to get through the bottom of an orfer without giving up6 runs. That's why it happens all the time and all pitchers have an ERA around 54.
Oh wait--it's not and they don't. Hmmm, maybe it's not such a Herculean task to get 3 f'ing outs...but that's just crazy talk...

never mind that last bit, i thought this series was at philly, didn't realize it's at shea. now johan should definitely win.
I'm just really glad Billy Joel isn't there to mess up his bullpen session. It's tough to find places to play catch.
