Beetz and I were discussing this while it happened, and Gary Cohen's call was right on--the ump was baiting Beltran. Sure, Beltran shouldn't have faced the ump when arguing the initial call, but he never left the batters box and quickly turned his focus towards the pitcher. The ump is the one who walks out in front of the plate to make a spectacle of the whole situation. Then the ump is the one that initiates the contact/bump with Manuel. And tossing Beltran (which you don't see b/c it happens while the camera is following Manuel back to the dugout) at that point is just gratuitous. The Mets probably should have protested the game.
As Beltran points out, any manager or player would be disciplined for making contact with an ump, I wonder if the league will discipline Rungee?
BTW, I didn't notice it in live time, but check out the dugout, and particularly D Wright, when the camera is following Manuel back to the dugout. When Beltran is ejected, they go NUTS.

To your earlier post Fredo about being stymied by talent, you make some good points. But you overlook that in addition the Mets apparently might also reasonably be expected to yield ELEVEN runs to the worst team in baseball, with the fewest number of runs scored in AL. Apparently that's reasonable.
It's a good thing we got rid of Peterson by the way. He clearly was holding back Johan and Perez's development.
This team's ownership and front office makes me sick.
Haha, D wright is clearly yelling "What the F is going on?" at the top of the dugout.
All I know is, I never even knew Beltran had a pulse until he got in that ump's face. Apparently he's never been tossed from a game before. That tells you Runge must've been way out of line for Beltran to get that fired up. I'd think the league should fine Runge for the chest bump, but we'll see.
Manuel talking shakeup in a big way for rotation and lineup. I love it. I'm sick of the same players failing to get the job done night in and night out. Might as well bench them, put some hungry subs and rookies out there, and see if the vets have enough pride to fight for their jobs. Team's got nothing to lose, they blow anyway.
So, what do you think Omar? "I think right now we have to let these guys play," Minaya said. Shocking, you want to stick with the status quo that has produced exactly .500 ball for over 180 games straight. Omar, you've let them play. And they stink.
If we're going to go clean slate, how's this for a change:
Chavez
Reyes
Beltran
Wright
Church
Easley
Delgado
Schneider
Chavez has been hitting .368 in his last 7. The more he plays, the better he's been playing. He's a patient, contact-oriented hitter. And having Endy lead off facilitates moving Reyes to the 2 hole.
Why the two hole? Because Reyes has plenty of pop, and with Chavez on 1st, a gapper scores a run. Never mind the 15 HR's a year. Why not make 6 or 7 of them two run jacks instead of solo shots?
Flip-flopping Wright and Beltran helps maintain a L-R-L-R pattern in the lineup which makes opposing managers burn relievers late in the game.
Castillo should be sitting. He's hurt, he's one dimensional, he's replacement-level in the field (b/c he's hurt), and he sucks.
If Evans or Carp are ready (or even if they want to give 29-year old AAA 1B Valentino Pasucci a shot), I'd love to see Delgado sitting as well.
BTW, it just burns me up that we don't have Keppinger playing 2nd right now.
Interesting idea to put Reyes in #2 hole, especially since his OBP is not anything to write home about this year it's not necessarily a huge loss to drop his # ABs slightly. And pick up the RBIs as you mention, could be net positive. I'd heard a similar argument somewhere about having the pitcher bat in 8 spot instead of 9, maybe related to frequency of pinch hitters during game?
I'd take Delgado out as a regular and platoon him, and I'd also bench Beltran for a while. No one seems to be able to get through to these guys about the proper way to approach an at bat.
It's hard to bench Beltran when he's got over 50 ribs for the year. Rest him, sure, but there's no way you're gonna match the numbers he's putting up. Delgado's numbers can be matched by AAA guy, and I don't think he's going to get any better.
