Jose, jose, jo$e

Reyes' stock just keeps going up in my book. Instead of waiting until end of season, going to arbitration, and likely getting more $, he decided to take a reasonable deal and preserve team chemistry.

"Reasonable deal" is putting it mildly. Most everyone expected he'd sign at 8 or 9 Mil per year. Chris Russo was barking about the fact that his agent was useless. Either he was on the take from the Mets, or he was negotiating under the influence.

Not that I'm complaining. More cash for Zito, Kennedy, and Carlos Lee.

No doubt.. It shows a few things. (1) Reyes is a team player. (2) Reyes is not a cash whore. (3) Reyes knows the Mets are going to be solid for a long time, and by staying here he's got a good chance to win one or more WS. I think it sets a great precedent.

Reyes is 23 and not exactly cash savvy. My guess is his agent said, "do I have a great deal for you...", and Reyes was like, "I can fly back and forth to the D.R. like 58 times a day on that salary!" and he was sold.
