...apparently he's the best.
The Mets are 76-55 since Manuel became manager, the best 131-game start by any of the 15 managers who lasted that long with the 48-year-old franchise.
On another note, I think I've finally pinpointed what I find most exasperating about the Mets. The stupid, lack-of-focus errors. They consistently make more mental errors than any team with as many supposed all-stars and high payroll. Between the stupid baserunning decisions and the dropped fly balls due to poor outfield communication they shoot themselves in the foot more than any other top team.

He's got a better record than all the other Met managers that took over a team that had been within a pitch of going to the world series the year before he took over, had four star players, the best pitcher in baseball anchoring the staff, and one of the top payrolls in the game? So basically, he outperformed...
Buddy Harrelson. [and that's being kind, because the Mets team Buddy inherited was clearly falling apart, and by any measure, this squad should outperform the '91 squad, so I'm not even sure he "outperformed" Buddy.]
And let's be clear: Buddy was a horrible manager. And so is da Gangsta.
As I predicted last year-- the media and players will love him as easy goin' Jerry. Until they realize they don't, b/c he makes no damn sense. And just like in Chi-town, he will get run out on a rail, sooner rather than later.
And here's another thing about Jerry that needs to be said: the man is dumb as a doorpost. Without having to endure the daily media junkets and post-game press conferences that we have to in the NY metro, SHK, you may not realize just how freakin' stupid this man is.
It's like having Forrest Gump running the show. He puts a smile on your face, but you're like, "can this guy really be in charge?"
Don't be such a hater!
The Mets could use a little Bobby V time..
Dude, I've been yelling that for years!
I'd sign up for Bobby V. in. a. heartbeat.
