It's that time of the season again when the Mets are going right into the lion's den of the NL east. Bottom line, if they really are a team that is a legitimate competitor to make some noise in the playoffs, they need to win at least 4 of 7, preferably by taking at least 2 of 3 from Braves.
I'm sorry, but the Braves are not a good team. I don't care about whether they are "supposed" to be good on paper, the fact is in actuality they are only as good as their record, and it's not good. They are 67-64, only 3 games above .500. If we subtract the mets carnage, they are only 59-60, one game below .500. So basically the Mets have been whipped all season by a sub-.500 team. What about the addition of Teixeira, surely that's turned things around? Wrong, the Braves are no different with Teixeira, they are still a sub-.500 team, having played to an 11-13 record since his first game on Aug. 1. So, the Mets need to get over this "but it's the braves, and i suddenly can't remember how to pitch, hit, or field" issue and get on with burying this team for good.
As for playoffs, in a short 5-game series, SD definitely scares me with their pitching. But that's another matter for another day.

On a positive side note, the ESPN announcers last night mentioned that apparently Pedro noticed a tell in Mota's delivery, and called up Mets bullpen last week to explain this. Perhaps this was Mota's problem, if so it seems fixed based on his performance last night. (On the other hand, the dodger's weak lineup really should never be a test for whether you have great stuff.) If Mota had a simple fix, that would indeed be great news for a bullpen that could really use some more stability besides just feliciano heading towards oct.
I really am getting sick of this broken record. Glavine pitches his ass off, leaves game winning. Mets offense is absolutely nowhere to be found, and bullpen blows it for him.
This team really is a joke against anyone with a winning record. Sadly, a complete meltdown of their lead in NL east over the last month with all the games against Phils and Braves wouldn't surprise me.
Batters 1-4 in mets lineup last night were a combined 0-16 with 2 BBs. This is flat unacceptable and a disgrace. But wait, maybe Jake Peavy got traded from SD to PHI just before last night's game and he was no the mound. Nope, it was indeed Adam Eaton, with a WHOPPING 6.23 ERA.
Goat of the night: too easy to give it to the bullpen that continues its end-of-season implosion, instead I'm giving it to Jose Reyes, who went a hideous 0-5 while only sampling ELEVEN pitches. Way to work the pitch count Jose, and at least make the pitcher earn it if it's not your night. I really would like to see Jose up his AVG by 10-20 points and his OBP by 20-30 points next season, and in so doing up his pitches per plate appearance.
Looks like the mets have chosen the "shut up" option. 0-3 so far. Well played boys, well played. Nice of the offense to show up in HITTER-FRIENDLY CBP, against pitchers with respective ERAs of 5.14, 6.23, and 5.08!! Not exactly top of the line offerings. The Mets have scored 2 runs in each game. This offense is a joke.
I haven't been paying attention the last few days. So how are we doing?
I'd say strong to very strong.
