Red Sox prove to be real deal

Unlike the Mets prospects--Pelf, Humber, Milledge, and Gomez--who are supposedly right on the verge of breaking through, the Red Sox prospects have broken through since day 1, right through world series. Whether you look at the superb hitting and fielding of pedroia and ellsbury, or the top-shelf pitching of papelbon, buccholz, and lester (not to mention gabbard who they traded for gagne), the red sox seemingly have not only the deepest and most talented farm system, but also the players who are most likely to make an impact immediately upon being brought into majors. Whether this is a reflection of: (a) good minor league coaching, (b) solid coaching and veterans at MLB level to guide the youngsters, (c) good scouting by Sox, or (d) a combo of all three, is unclear but probably (d). In any case you can all but guarantee that with the pitching, hitting, fielding and youth the Sox have they will be WS favorites for several years to come.

The Sawx made a commitment to their kids and now they're reaping the benefits. The kids produced, weathered their first slumps when the team could bear it, and were ready for prime time when the post season arrived.

Now, you've got a bunch of players that aren't even arb-eligible who can be counted on as real contributors, freeing up tons of cash to shore-up any weak spots.

The Mets never commit to young talent in this way: a guy like Milledge is given spot time to keep Shawn Green in the lineup. The message to Milledge: you're no Shawn Green ('08 vintage). There's a great mental message for a guy who's still trying to define himself.

Pelfrey's off to a rough start. Yank him. The message: You're no Jorge Sosa. Now you need a live arm in the last week of the season so you turn to...Pelfrey.

If the Mets aren't going to let Pelfrey, Humber and Milledge play, they might as well trade them now.

Ha ha, what could be more demotivating than to hear "You're no '07 Shawn Green"!

"Well Lastings, we'd love to go with you, but let's face it. You're no shawn green." He'll cry himself to sleep tonight on his gigantic pilla'!

I agree that if the Mets aren't going to play their guys, and don't think they are really going to pan out, then trade them now while the hype is still high and you could get a lot in return.
