If the two schools [Syracuse and Pitt] are to join the ACC, Krzyzewski doesn't want the conference to stop at 14 teams. He said he'd like to see 16 teams, taking two more schools that have comparable rich basketball traditions and are in the Eastern time zone. An ACC official told USA Today that Connecticut and Rutgers would be the candidates.

I can't help but notice that the Catholic schools are staying true to the BE. To the rest of the deserters, I say good riddance.
A 16-team ACC will be its downfall. I didn't like it when the BE expanded like crazy, the idea of two sub-groups within the conference is asinine. It ruins the feel of the conference and the great competitive rivalries. I think the ACC will find this to be true as well.
I absolutely agree. If football and economics weren't driving this 16 team superconference madness, Is be dead set against it. But it seems that's where were headed, and I'm glad the ACC will survive as an all-sports league.
To your point tho, if the B.E. makes the decision to be done w fb and soldiers on as an 8 team conference, it will be have its own charm. There is a beauty to a pure double-round-robin schedule, and the B.E. may be the only league to have one. The only question is how it affects recruiting. Will the B.E. be to the ACC what the A10 has been to the B.E., now that were in the same sandbox?
BTW, I want nothing to do with U Conn. The ACC is back burnering UConn and Rutgers, figuring they can always go back to these two later if they need more schools because the Big 10 or SEC raid the ACC.
Open spots 15 & 16 are being reserved for 2 of 3 following schools: Texas, Penn State, and Notre Dame.
Now that the Pac 12 has elected to stand down, and things look likely to stand pat for the next year, the ACC will wait it out and not extend offers. If the expansion train starts rolling again, and if participation in the FBS playoff system is tied to membership in a superconference, ND will join a conference. Would I bet on the Big 10? Yes. Would I rule out the ACC as a possibility? Absolutely not.
If the ACC gets ND, there's a good chance Penn State follows.
