Nice start to league play for the Johnnies

Beating Thuggins' squad down in Morgantown by 10. A quick look a the box score is startling: SJU shot over 60% from the floor (all from inside apparently, as the Storm only attempted 6 threes), and killed WVU on the glass. That's feeding Thuggins his own meds.

It will be interesting to see how the Johnnies play this year. Next year is when Lavin gets his monster recruiting class, but for now he's still playing with Roberts' guys. We'll see if he can get more out of them than Roberts did. A trip to March Madness would be nice, but perhaps a stretch given how strong the Big East is supposed to be again this year (5 out of top 10 in AP Poll, as I'm sure Fredo is aware).

Indeed, quite aware. I was awaiting the first shot to be fired. ACC is down (legitimately) this year, and the Big East is (once again) overrated. Already since last week's poll, "top 10" GTown got stomped by the Dame (who are mediocre as always), and unbeaten "top 3" U Convict got throttled by 15 @ Pitt.

2 legit N.C. threats out of the Big East, IMO, 'Cuse and Pitt. But I'm sure we'll be hearing about the 17 teams in the B.E. that should be ranked in the top 15 for the remainder of this basketball season.

I wish soooo bad they'd bring back the Big East-ACC Challenge, if only for a year. That used to be great before the Big East begged out of it.

Of course, the Big 10 is the better conference, so I guess it makes for better ongoing T.V., even though they've only won 2 of 11.

And the hits keep on coming. UK (a team that has lost to UNC already this year), beats Louisville (allegedly top 25 team) handily on L'Ville's home court.

Don't know if there is any truth to the rumor that Pitino spent the second half on his cell arranging a "pizza dinner" with a "friend."

UConn needed OT to beat USF at home?

WTF????

Huge win over hated G-town last night. Great job! If Lavin can get this kind of play out of the Johnnies this year, I'd say my prediction of top 15 in the next 2-3 years is a lock with the monster class he's bringing in next year.

Big win against GT at home. Loss at ND is too bad, but you just move on. Next play. Lavin is doing a nice job with these seniors.

I agree with SHK that the program is on the rise, just keep in mind there will prolly be a step backwards next year. The roster is losing like 7 seniors, IIRC, and even a great class like the one he has coming in is still freshman. If he keeps recruiting though, when next yrs freshman are sophs or juniors SJU will be dangerous.

It would be exciting to have a legit SJU team again...
