June

Will the Mets step up by sending a message to Philly, and end their "lackluster" play, or lay down by putting up meager offense? And when will Beltran stop coddling his legs? With Lo Duca hot again, I'd like to go back to more typical lineup, seemed to work a lot better. Reyes - Lo Duca - Beltran - Delgado - Wright - Chavez - Easley - Gomez - P. We really need Alou.

Alou was scheduled to return this week, but from what I heard over the weekend, he's pulled up his timetable and basically said he's out indefinitely: he's not making progress and has no idea when he'll be healthy enough to play.

As long as we're dominating NL, I guess better to play it safe with Alou and make sure we have him healthy heading into October. We clearly need his bat in our lineup. I think everyone knew heading into season that Alou was going to be injury prone, as were El Duque, Glavine, and Beltran's "sore" hamstrings / quads / knees / whatever.

That said, we are going to face a really tough month in June, we could use all the offense we've got. I worry about pitching staff getting frustrated if they keep losing games 3-1, 3-2, 4-2, etc. You hear it all the time out of Glavine - his frustration about losing games when he pitches well but offense takes the night off is very clear in post-game interviews. I'm not so worried about glavine or el duque since they have experience here, but a few games like that in a row could be a huge mental setback to Maine, Perez, and Sosa.
