Welcome to Deadwood--or goodbye, in this case

Finally, Omar does something that actually makes sense. The Schmetties have not offered a contract to Victor Zambrano, severing ties to the horrific reminder of what coulda been with Scottie Kazmir.

In addition, Dave Williams was given a one year, 1.25 mil deal to help fill the void of Darren Oliver's departure to the land of the Haloes (if it wasn't the X-Mas season there might've been a Lidle comment here). Things are starting to solidify as far as the 25-man roster goes but personally I'm still not satisfied at this point.

What will OM be dropping down our collective chimneys for Christmas? Any requests?

And a question--if the BoSox botch the negotiations with Matsuzaka, do we get the next shot at him since we put up the second best offer for the rights?

Matsuzaka deal appears done. If no agreement is reached, then he's off the table for one year (only the highest bid was allowed a shot to negotiate). Next year the same process repeats. If no deal, then the following year he is off contract with Seibu Lions and can negotiate freely with as many US teams as he likes.

In any case, looks like Sox get him for 6 yrs, for $51 + $52 M = $103 M. Sox have made a lot of power moves this year. If they keep Manny they will have good lineup again.

I'm still thinking we need to make a major trade.. Package Milledge + Heilman to get a solid starter.

I'm less inclined to give up Heilman now than I was a few weeks ago. Sanchez is a question mark until you see how his shoulder's healed. Mota's out 50 games and will probably suck now that he's off the juice. Bradford and Oliver are gone. Ambidextrous that we just traded Bannister for has awful career numbers (hopefully a nice upside though). Basically, Heilman's the only guy besides Wagner that's back. While they both had their forgettable moments in the postseason, they were the best relievers all season (since Duaner didn't make it that far). But after those two, who's left? I can't see giving up Heilman right now.
