Agreed, BUT...
This is a new disgraceful low of ineptness for this organization. There is no way, NO WAY, that alderson and Wilpon didn't already know at the beginning of the season that they weren't keeping reyes. The deal he got from Florida is not higher than one could have expected him to get in today's market. Given that, it is clear that the Mets never intended to keep him. Therefore, to not have traded him before all-star break and gotten more value in return is simply inexcusable. Flat out FAIL.
The only way they could top it is by not resigning Wright and letting him walk at the end of 2012.
This team makes me sick.
Totally agree that was their plan from the beginning. Look at Wilpon's financial situation and Alderson's background.
They wanted the compensatory picks more than anything they were going to get back in a trade.
They're not rebuilding for 2013. They're rebuilding for 2017. And that's just the financial reality of Mets ownership. We're Kansas City East. Only way to win will be around solid young pitching, good defense, and moneyball offense.
And that will be the case until the Wilpon's sell.

Rumors are that privately they've admitted they can't even begin to compete in NL East until at least 2014, if that.
I'm also very much on record here that until the Wilpons sell this team, the Mets will not win another WS. Period. They are killing this team with inept leadership that permeates throughout the entire organization.
