Moss

Florio of PFT predicts Jets will make a strong play for Moss. I disagree, and if they do, I don't think it's a good fit.

Florio's first line of reasoning is that the Jets will make the move for defensive purposes, to keep Moss from going back to the Pats. Why? The Jets have won 3 of their last 4 matchups with the Pats with Randy Moss. Moss is not the player on the Pats who poses the biggest threat to the Jets. Also, why would the Pats have released Moss in the first place if they're going to pick him up now? Nothing has changed, and they've continued to win without him.

Second, anyone who's watched Moss over the last few years knows his only value is as a deep threat on fly patterns. He puts in ZERO effort on any other route, especially quick slants over the middle where we could really use some presence. Given that Sanchez has yet to demonstrate that he has an accurate deep arm, I think Moss' value to the Jets is almost nil, especially when you consider we already have a big strong receiver in Edwards who has been tremendous this year.

The only reason to get him would be to block the Fish from getting him, but to me this is not enough of a reason. Granted that Henne / Marshall / Moss would be a potent combo, but we've got the secondary equal to covering it.

With regard to the what the Jets offense could use, their recent sputtering over the past few weeks has been nothing short of frustrating. To be incapable of running against two teams with hideously poor run defenses is hard to justify.

I think the Jets have a few issues they need to work through on offense. One is just the continued maturation of Sanchez, which will take some time. Part of this though is that it seems they've dialed him back a bit too much; they've got to let him know it's ok to run if no options are open and he sees green field ahead. Just slide feet first.

Second is more bang-bang quick routes. They need more quick slants over the middle, quick outs, and LT bump and run plays. It feels like the pass plays take a year and a half to develop, which inevitably results in the O-line being overworked, a holding call, or a sack. Mix up runs with quick dumps like the Pats and Colts do, and then play action deep passes will be all the more effective. Granted, part of what lets the Pats and Colts do what they do is the high play of Brady and Manning as well as their rhythm with their receivers, but I just don't see many plays like this in the Jets playbook. (Of course Santonio dropped a clear TD on such a play yesterday.)

If the offense can get their act in gear, the Jets should win AFC East given how solid their D and special teams are. They have too much talent on offense not to succeed.

I think Sanchez has shown above avg accuracy on his deep ball. It's getting thru his progressions where I think he needs the most work.
