Hey Fredo

I'd like to go ahead and go in on those playoff tickets you won.

Too late. Already went to the stadium last night.

Too bad, that was an awesome game. I can tell this because they just renewed Omar for 4 years and Manuel for 2, so they must be winning.

Did you read Sherman's column in today's post. Really hit the nail on the head. Check it out.

Manuel had some interesting comments (and by interesting I mean strange), saying that some players on the team need to focus more on the team than on their individual stats. He was in essence saying that too often the Mets fail to advance runners because certain batters are more interested in their own stats.

I don't get this. In other team sports, like football or basketball, I can see where a selfish player looking to his own stats could do so to the detriment of his team. Kind of hard to see how that happens in baseball. If a player "selfishly" wants RBIs, well, that helps the team.

The real problem here is that Manuel apparently doesn't see the core issue for what it is. The reason the Mets fail to advance runners is not because of selfish play. It's because of poor play, or more specifically, poor situational adjustments. As we've discussed here before, it shows a complete lack of fundamentals when you have batters taking the same types of swings in an 0-2 count as in a 3-1 one. Or failing to get a sac fly with a runner on 3rd, 1 out or fewer. and so on...
