What the E?

It's headlines like this that I love:

Minaya: New York Mets don't need to trade for big-name pitcher

Omar just scares me sometimes. If he thinks this is going to help him keep other GM's expectations down on what he'll offer, he must be sampling his own product. The Mets obviously need a front line starter. We obviously need to win NOW, what with the new ballpark coming up, and the fact we're a major market team with the budget to win every year). Pedro as a #1 and Duque as a #2 is a joke with the mileage those two have seen. We desperately need the arm. Obviously, either Gomez or F Mart is going to be dealt. Same for Pelfrey, Humber or Mulvey. My WAG for a Bedard offer is Heilman, Pelf and Gomez.

Mets are apparently pursuing the Japanese guy Kuroda, but he's only considered a middle-to-back-end of the rotation guy. Mets do need a #1 guy now. IF - and you can't make that IF big enough - Pedro stays healthy all next year I think he'll be a legit top 10 pitcher. But I'm tired of the Mets banking on players who have such obvious question marks, whether it's age (Duque, Green, Valentin, ...), injuries from which their return is unclear (Sanchez, Pedro, ...), or control (Perez, Pelfrey, ...)

I think they need to get Haren or Bedard, and the cost for Haren is probably going to be too high since the Mets don't have the chips. I think Bedard is more likely, hopefully only losing only one of Pelf, Humber, and Mulvey, and only one of F-Mart and Gomez.

Old age, injuries, questionable use of starters/bullpen and undisciplined play down the stretch cost the Mets what should have been guaranteed trips to WS in '06 and '07. It's time to get back to WS; for their budget anything else is a waste of money.

Bedard/Martinez/Maine/Perez/Humber sounds pretty good to me. Duque in reserve as a long man/6th starter as well. The bullpen is still going to be a big problem.
