Fins v Jets

Our semi-annual board throw-down.

As a Jets fan, it takes me back to the glory days, when the Jets would take on the role of pugnacious second fiddle, out for respect against a legendary coach and the perennial division winners.

Wait a second...

So funny, yet so true...actually, now they're 3rd fiddle with Buffalo's phoenix-like resurrection.

As for tonight's game, it's a total win-win for my Fins.

If they get the W, it's another staple to shut Rex Ryan's fat mouth from flapping ridiculousness.

If they lose (yet again), they stay stride for stride in the Andrew Lock sweepstakes. Remember, the prize for the 1-15 season was Jake Long so I'd be content to take another lost season for that kind of opportunity.

Not sure I'm following you here...

Over/under on Brandon Marshall actually getting ejected in 2nd quarter? I'd say it doesn't happen, no ejection all game.

SUCK FOR LUCK!
SUCK FOR LUCK!

I can't deal w/ the Fins winning the Suck for Luck sweepstakes. Another 20 yr span of an annoying QB in division might push me over the edge.

The Jets looked horrible in that game. And in all honesty, I really thought it was clear that the Fins were trying to lose.

I mean, that was just a bad, bad, NFL game.

Marshall actually played aight.

Revis pwned him on the two end zone plays that really mattered.

But he still got his catches. If he'd caught the touchdown pass that went through his hands and held on to the one that got challenged he might have felt a lot better this morning.

Jets have a lot of work to do. The underwhelming offensive performance two weeks in a row - against the #32 and #31 pass defenses in the NFL - shows they are struggling. No first downs in first quarter two weeks in a row. Time for Schott to go, IMO. He's not the only problem by a long shot, but he's certainly a problem.

I can deal with that. But here's the counter argument...

A developing QB needs one thing most of all: stability. Same plays, same approach, same terminology. Once that's solid, then he can get reps in w his receivers and hopefully get stability w the guys he's throwing to.

To change OC now could set the O another 1-2 yrs off from getting where they want to be. And that's if u believe the premise that they have the pieces to get there.

I'm not saying the poor performance doesn't warrant considering a change, but you're not going to fire him till this off-season at the earliest, and then next year becomes a learning year. The organization won't make that change unless theyre convinced they CANT win w Schott. Not just to light a fire.

True, but the Jets with Tannenbaum and Ryan clearly aren't committed to stability. Otherwise no WAY you screw Sanchez' development by getting rid of Faneca, Woody, Braylon and Cotchery.

Unfortunately what's happening this season is not surprising. With the lock-out and shortened camp, the Jets brought in too many new pieces that are taking too long to gel.

All that said, Sanchez has to take a lot of this responsibility. It's time for him to make necessary adjustments at the line, and during the game. If he thinks the play calling is not good, he needs to discuss with Ryan and Schott.

The Miami game was a real eye-opener. Sanchez had all day to throw all game, and yet the offense only put up 17 points. That's got to go on either Sanchez or Schott. Why haven't they used Plax's height and thrown corner fades in the red zone? If Plax is getting doubled, then Holmes or Keller must be getting single coverage. Why is LT running so much, preventing Greene from getting into a rhythm? Also, they should use more trips formations and do some quick slants to Holmes or screen passes to LT.

1. True, but the Jets with Tannenbaum and Ryan clearly aren't committed to stability.

I agree. I think Tannenbaum has to take a lot of the heat for the personnel decisions. Not resigning Woody was a disaster. Ellis should have been back too. Losing Cotchery was a bad blow too, but of course, that was his choice, not ours.

2. All that said, Sanchez has to take a lot of this responsibility.

Yup. He seemed to take a step forward from season 1 to 2. So far it's been a step back in season 3. There's still time though. I continue to believe Sanchez is better suited to a run-first offense where his exceptional play-action ability would be more effective, so I would hope they would get back to that. Of course, the problem there is that Shonn Greene is playing like crap. I really hope we see more of McKnight and maybe even Powell at the RB.

3. Why haven't they used Plax's height and thrown corner fades in the red zone?

Because, IMHO, Plax sucks right now. He seems to try about 30% of the time. Low effort from a low character guy, not that surprising. But it really hurts when you're also rusty, running poor routes, and not showing great ability to catch the ball in traffic.

Could he turn it up later? Yup. But Rex better start paying attention to Joe Willie and stop trying to be his players' friend.
