In response to the last post...

...the more I think about it, the more I realize this really is the BEST possible start to the season.

Why?

Because it means we can dispense with the charade that this is a good team. That they're just not playing up to their potential. That they are one player away from greatness. The reality is, the team blows and it's time for some wholesale changes. Hopefully this start forces ownership and management to accept what the fans have known for seasons now.

I just wrote a whole response to this and blogger had a hiccup that erased the entire thing that took me about 15 minutes to type.

Crap.

If I can get re-motivated, I'll repost...

I'm not being critical of the idea but am genuinely curious--what do they do? Should we fire sale it and start from scratch with minor leaguers? Do we let Alderson work his magic and try to collect pieces whose sum is greater than the individual parts?

It is very tough when you start looking at the specific players and what their value might even be. I can understand the "anyone can be had for the right price" mentality, but there are some players that I have become attached to and would be saddened by their departure.

I think if they scrap the team and make it clear that they are rebuilding, we'll see a monster year from Wright. He's clearly been pressuring himself to hit 6 run homers every at bat, knowing he's the sole threat in the lineup. He needs to be unburdened of trying to bail out a sinking ship and allowed to get back to form.

I think we should trade Jose--there's no way we can commit the kind of $ he's going to draw in FA right now. Someone on MLBTradeRumors.com suggested picking up Brandon Wood since the Angels released him. He's been a bust so far but let him have a full season to let 'er rip and see if he can be the real deal.

Is Ike going to be the next Mark Grace (doubles power, great glove) or will he find a bit more oomph and become a legitimate threat? If it's the former, there are plenty of guys out there that fit the mold. I think he's going to fill out and blossom into a big bat so I'd like to see him stick around.

Can Murphy find more glove? Can Thole find more stick (and more arm)? Will Pagan backslide? Will F-Mart develop? Or are these guys basically (as I heard Emaus described by a top scout) quadruple-A players? Niese, Parnell and Gee fit into this catergory as well. Niese in particular shows signs of domination but needs to find that groove.

Pelfrey has destroyed any trade value he had right now. Johan should be shipped to a contender as soon as he can show he's healthy. Beltran looks like he's building value back up.

I still hold out hope that Bay will finally get healthy and be the very productive player he is. Love to see him stick around--alwyas gives top effort, great for the clubhouse.

I think we should go not necessarily clean sweep, but pretty close.

I like Ike.

I'd keep Wright just because I like homegrown talent, he's good, and he's got a ridiculously positive attitude after living for years in what I can only describe using the words from Spinal Tap, a real "shit sandwich."

Other than that I say dump anyone who is being fairly valued and we get some young talent in return.

Reyes is off to a good start, should have some very solid trade value. People will always have interest in Beltran. I'd at least start with those two. I hate to see Reyes go, because he is such an exciting player and can really energize the whole lineup. But unfortunately it's just not working on this team at this time.

Reyes, Bay, Beltran, Santana, K Rod, Pelf, need to go. Let Collins mold new young players and get the cancers out.
