Back to Metties

I can't really concentrate till MM is over, but:

1) Per today's NYP, Niese is taking the reins as the #5.

2) I caught an inning yesterday. It was the young phenom throwing in relief for his first back-to-back outing. This kid looks filthy. Don't know where he came from, but I love it.

You may find you don't want to concentrate once you see the on-field product. I wish I could un-see most of the last 4 seasons.

I haven't seen Mejia, but from what I read in the Post it sounds like his stuff is indeed filthy. At one point earlier they seemed to indicate that he was a lot like Perez, in that he had crazy pitch movement but still needed to improve control. What's your take--does he seem to have more control over strikes and balls than Ollie? If so, that could make for a deadly set-up reliever.

I agree the kid looks good but I don't want them screwing him up like the Jankees did with Justin Chamberlin. We are in desperate need for a good young starter especially now that they are getting tight in the wallet. How nice would it be to have someone that brings energy to the team and the park like our old great that yet again is in the headlines but not for good things.

I've seen him throw 10 pitches.

My take is blew away Larry Jones.

That's OK in my book.

Most likely it will play itself out as it always does:

A. Mets have very highly touted minor league prospects.

B. Mets have inadequate major leaguers on roster, due to: (a) injury, or (b) general ineptitude.

C. Mets call up said touted minor league prospect way too early, destroying his career.

D. SHK loses his s**t.

I agree with your premise, but that doesn't seem to be the case here. In his 10 pitches, he showed me command on 3 pitches (fast/slide/change), and Hernandez said he's got a starter's repetoire (# of pitches). He's def ML ready based on his #'s this spring, particularly if they're going to use him out of the pen. Doesn't mean he won't have struggles, but he's got to face major leaguers to figure them out, b/c the stuff is clearly there right now.
