I couldn't get out of the way of this one

anymore than Austin Powers could have dodged that steamroller.

You knew it was just inevitable.

Luckily, I got to see it, hear it, taste it, right from Jeff Wilpon's mouth:

“We demand better and we expect better. And to me, (Jerry) and Omar deserve a chance to come back and right the ship."

See you in Spring '11.

There really was no way around that steamroller.

Einstein: "The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results."

Luckily, unlike Mets management, I won't be expecting different results. Just more of the same.

Unlike the Jets who made some actual changes that seem to be paying off tremendously. And we get our best LB, Calvin Pace, back for Monday night's throwdown with the fish.

Yeah--Jets really looked great Sunday...pppptthhh!

As for the Mets, there is some promise for positive change--looks like they're opening the purse strings (in statement, at least) and have stated that Omar will have the freedom to increase payroll and pursue top FA's.

That being said, who should he focus on?

I'd say go hardest after Holliday. I don't think Lackey will be worth the money he commands--I'd rather go after more affordable pitching, especially Marquis. And I'm really not sure what to do about 1B--if we can get Holliday, I think we can go with Murphy at first (his UZR his actually very good--and much higher than Texiera's, surprisingly).

Hey, D.C., holding the league's best or second best offense to 10 points in their building is pretty darn impressive.

What, you didn't think Sanchez was going to have one bad game?

I think SHK's point is well taken. The Jets probably aren't winning two playoff games this year, but 9-7 or 10-6, and maybe the playoffs, are a real possiility at this point.

What were the odds that happened without some bold front office moves (Ryan, Sanchez)?

I can answer that one for you: zero.

Bold moves are in order for the Mets. Jeff Wilpon, on day one of the offseason, already dashed all hopes of that. He curled up in a fetal position, jammed his thumb in his mouth, and cried for his mommy.

Disgraceful.

Jets smack talk first. Jets D so far:

Houston: 0 points allowed
Hatriots: 9 points allowed
Tenn: 17 points allowed
NO: 10 points allowed

Houston has since averaged 29 ppg, Pats avg. 26 ppg, Tenn avg. 19 ppg and NO averages 40 ppg. The Jets D is dominant, in large part due to some bold trades and FA moves by Jets mgmt over the last year or two.

Second, Sanchez is having one of the best rookie years I've ever seen, up there with Big Ben and Flacco. If we go 9-7 or 10-6 as Fredo mentions that would be a great start to Sanchez era. Again, all because of bold moves by Jets mgmt to trade up in draft and take a risk.

Third, just hiring Ryan was a bold move by Jets mgmt. A lot of other teams could have had him, yet passed. They are surely regretting that move for now.

Now for the Mets. The increased purse strings mean nothing. When Omar came in he was given a blank check and allowed to have by far the largest payroll in NL, and 2nd largest in baseball. He's got nothing to show for it except old, broken down players. The Mets farm system is also pretty depleted, and the few possible stars we have get ruined because they are called on to do too much in the majors too soon. I think ultimately Wilpon's poor management style is to blame for only one WS appearance in 23 years, and no wins since '86. Given our payroll this is unacceptable; where is the accountability?

Where also is the explanation for the outrageous medical assessments of our injured players that are always completely understated? What is the point of this? Are our team doctors that inept, or is mgmt/ownership strong-arming them into false diagnoses? This too is unacceptable, especially in regards to the way they handled Church last year. An absolute disgrace.

I'd love to see a new owner and a fresh start, but if not then Omar needs to rethink his core strategy. Mets fans deserve better than the 2nd- and 3rd-rate teams we've been fielding.

As long as the Mets have Manuel, I almost want them to fail.

He's such an a-hole, I can't even take it.

I'm a gangsta... I'll cut ya' Fredo.

As for the Jets D, only one thing makes me nervous: so much of the success rests on one player, and that player is frequently injured.

It's true that a huge part of our success rests on Jenkins, but at the same time I think we've done a good job broadening the D. Between Revis, Pace, Bart Scott and Shaun Ellis we have a fairly talented range from lineman to DBs.
