The Mets did add a pair of young pitchers Monday, acquiring left-handers Jason Vargas and Adam Bostick from Florida for hard-throwing prospects Henry Owens and Matt Lindstrom.
Vargas and Bostick are both 23. Owens and Lindstrom are both right-handers.
Here's some info on the incoming hurlers:
Vargas will be 24 at the start of the next season. He's started and come out of the bullpen for the Marlins. Here are his ugly numbers. But we have Peterson!
Bostick's still in the Southern League and has put up some mixed numbers in the farms.
Owens of course was the guy who destroyed double A this year until he came up to the Mets and started walking the park. Lindstrom throws 100 MPH but can't seem to separate himself at the AA level.

It's clear that one of Minaya's trademarks is that he likes to deal in volume. That is, he wants to run as many 2nd tier pitchers and players through here as possible, hoping to find the one overlooked gem in the crowd. All I can say is, I hope Peterson evaluated the 4 pitchers involved in the deal and really sees upside in what appears to be a steaming pile of manure.
I also hope our team is still young enough to not have massive injury breakdowns, but given the ages I don't see how that's possible. And let's remember that there will never be a year like this one, where we had the luxury of a 12-14 game lead so we could rest people for unusual lengths. If we're stuck in a race with just a few games lead, we can't afford to rest starters.
